Iman Usmani (she/her) is a multidisciplinary fiber artist with a passion for fostering a BIPOC community among fiber artists in NYC. As a long time knitter, crocheter and amateur seamstress/upcycler, she is expanding her practice to include embroidery and quilting. She frequently mixes the various disciplines to create garments from scrap, secondhand, or recycled materials, focusing on minimizing waste and creating a use for any material. The prints included here mimic the repetition of wood blocking printing which is frequently represented in South Asian clothing. Looking forward, Iman plans to continue fostering her arts practice by highlighting cross-cultural textile traditions (like woodblock stamping, embroidery, and quilting) and embed her current sustainability practices when creating.
